Straight Up the Dock Guard Tower
From the garden at the boat landing, the Dock Guard Tower rises straight overhead — steel lattice, spiral stair, and a platform that hides the cab.
From the garden at the Alcatraz boat landing, the Dock Guard Tower goes straight up. You tip the camera and the steel lattice fills the frame — diagonal braces, a spiral stair, and a platform that hides the cab.
In the foreground, flowering plants and a white pointed-arch balustrade with stairs. The garden softens the industrial structure without hiding what it is.
I wanted the sense of standing under something built to watch the dock. Looking up does that more honestly than a distant three-quarter view.
The light was even. No dramatic sky — just the geometry of the tower against pale cloud.

Wide end of the 16-35mm, pointed nearly vertical. Focus on the lattice mid-height so both the garden and the upper structure read.
